Win a free MetroCard by entering our Horrifying Headways Contest!

What’s scarier than heading home after a long evening out and realizing that you’ll be waiting for 15, 20, even 30 minutes for the next bus or subway? Or realizing that you’re going to be late to pick up the kids because the C train is 18 minutes away? Or knowing that you have to plan an extra 90 minutes in your day to get to a doctor’s appointment?

MTA service has been leaving too many horrified and terrorized by long wait times, and we’re calling on Governor Hochul to deliver round the clock #6MinuteService. You can too, and win a free monthly unlimited MetroCard, just by sharing your wait times!

Today, as we approach the scariest time of year, we’re kicking off the Riders Alliance Horrifying Headways Contest to capture the most bone chilling of rider commutes. We’re calling on riders to post, gram, and tweet pictures of their bus or subway headways (wait times) from their stops. The winners will receive free monthly unlimited MetroCard (and the satisfaction of getting us one step closer to #6MinuteService)!

Here’s how to enter:

  1. Between now and October 30th, post a picture on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook documenting your wait time (this could be a countdown clock, a travel app, or any other creative way you can share your receipts!)

  2. Tag @RidersAlliance and @GovKathyHochul

  3. Using the #SixMinuteService hashtag, tell us why you need better service! Bonus points for anyone who records a short video on the platform sharing their story!

The winners with the longest, most horrifying bus or subway headways will be announced on the spookiest day of the year - Halloween! All winners will receive a free monthly unlimited MetroCard!

Get your submissions in early and often, you can enter up to once per day! See full contest rules here.

Good luck, riders!
