Governor Cuomo is responsible for funding public transit in New York: the MTA is a state agency, and the agency reports to the Governor.
When Governor Cuomo remained silent on funding the MTA’s vital capital investment program, we invited him to ride the subway with us to see how years of underinvestment are causing delays, crowding and consequences for riders.
And when Governor Cuomo ignored our repeated invitations, we decided to take Cardboard Cutout Cuomo on a tour of the subway instead. Our pressure, as well as pressure from our allies, helped convince Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio to commit almost $11 billion to help fill the MTA’s capital program funding gap.
